A foreign worker from Nepal has been stabbed by a suspected terrorist in Israel just a day before she was due to celebrate her 31st birthday. Detailing the sheer horror she experienced during the Sunday morning incident, the woman told journalists from her hospital bed that she immediately knew she was a terror victim.
This is perhaps the first time a Nepalese national has been caught directly in the Arab-Israeli conflict.
Israeli media has been inconsistent in identifying the woman with some naming her as ‘Hisorai Taplaya’ while some other ‘Hisouri Tepalya’. A Sydney local from Nepal, however, told southasia.com.au although the victim’s first is hard to ascertain, her second name could most likely be either Thapa or Thapaliya.
Jerusalem Post cited the 30 year old Nepalese woman as saying that ‘she was extremely scared but could not find anyone around her to help her’.
Police began a massive manhunt immediately after the incident and arrested a 17 year old Palestinian man from the West Bank who was hiding in a nearby construction site. Accounts given by eyewitnesses and the victim as well as the admission of the attacker himself confirmed the identity of the perpetrator, the footage said.
“He passed by me, a young guy, and he put a knife or something in me,” the victims said in a video posted by Jerusalem Post. She said as there were no one around to help her, she crossed the road over to a bus and the driver helped her and called the emergency services, “I sat on the bus and lost a lot of blood.”
