Korean Central News Agency reported on Friday that Kim convened an emergency meeting of the Central Military Commission of the ruling Workers' Party of Korea on Thursday evening.Kim reportedly declared frontline areas will be in a "quasi-state of war" from 5 PM local time.
It comes after Seoul said North Korea fired a shell across the border into South Korea, which responded with multiple rounds of artillery fire.The North warned that it will launch military operations unless the South stops broadcasting cross-border propaganda using loudspeakers by Saturday afternoon.
The movement of vehicles in North Korea carrying short range Scud and medium-range Rodong missiles has been detected by US and South Korean surveillance.
